In their own words, “Families for Children (FFC) is a non profit, non-sectarian organization that exists to fulfill the needs of children and young adults with physical and/or mental disabilities. By providing housing, education, special medical care and vocational training, FFC helps these individuals to reach their full potential and live with dignity in a loving environment.”
The FFC has its roots going all the way back to Vietnam in the late 60’s and early 70’s. The founders of the FFC were pioneers in the promotion of the international and inter-racial adoption of war babies and other children from distressed situations. This work was being done by them at a time when laws, cultures, and bureaucracies were not aligned to facilitate this kind of effort but in spite of this the FFC was amazingly successful by sheer force of wit, will, and persistence.
The FFC and and its president Ms. Sandra Simpson have been recognized and commended numerous times over the years including receipt of the very prestigious Order of Canada. As described in the text of the award ” “Families for Children” has saved the lives of thousands.” There is no doubt that thousands more have been saved since this award was made!
